Man accused of attempting to murder neighbour in Bradford is bailed
6:30am Wednesday 16th October 2013 in News
A man accused of attempting to murder his neighbour has been allowed bail.
Judge Peter Benson granted conditional bail to 25-year-old Nadeem Nawaz.
Nawaz was appearing, from custody, at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, along with his sister and mother, Shazmeen Nawaz, 31, and Fazilat Nawaz, 63.
All three are jointly charged with attempting to murder Mohammed Shah, 26, on September 30 this year at Ringwood Road, Canterbury, Bradford, where he lived.
Mr Shah suffered multiple stab wounds, but the court heard yesterday he had now been discharged from hospital.
Applying for bail, Nadeem Nawaz’s barrister, James Bourne-Arton, said it was not appropriate for his client to be dealt with in a different way to his sister and mother, who were already on conditional bail.
Judge Benson agreed to allow bail, subject to conditions.
Nawaz has to live and sleep at an address in Oldham, abide by an electronically monitored curfew between 7pm and 7am, not enter Bradford except to attend court or an appointment with his solicitors and not to contact prosecution witnesses or the complainant.
The judge extended conditional bail to the co-defendants. Fazilat Nawaz was bailed on condition she lives and sleeps at an address in Blackburn, abides by a curfew, and does not contact witnesses or the complainant. Her daughter, now living at an address in Allerton, Bradford, must not enter the Canterbury estate, or contact witnesses or the complainant.
All three will next appear at the crown court on January 6 for a plea and case management hearing.
Mr Walters said the trial would take at least two weeks but no date had yet been identified.
Shazmeen occasionally dabbed her eyes during the ten-minute hearing. Her mother wept in the public gallery during her son’s bail application.
