Woodland is turned into learning area
12:00pm Saturday 12th October 2013 in News
A woodland site near Holme Wood Children’s Centre has been transformed into a forest learning environment by SureStart BHT.
The group, who were awarded £9,225 for the project by the People’s Postcode Trust, have developed ‘The Learning Livada’ on a derelict piece of land donated by the In Communities Housing Trust.
The area will officially be opened on Wednesday, October 16 with a gathering of over 40 representatives from local schools and community groups, the postcode lottery funders and residents who have volunteered their time to the scheme.
SureStart BHT CPD Coordinator Paul Smith said that alongside the trees, flowers and wildlife, the area will also include a barefoot walk, a boat, a bird-hide, a swamp for frogs and a camp-fire circle.
Dean Tombling, Head Teacher at neighbouring Knowleswood Primary School, said: “We are very lucky and excited about the prospect of the new area. The Learning Livada will allow the children to learn in a different environment with countless new opportunities.”
