6:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
Green ribbons will act as the symbol of peace at locations around the city centre today, as a celebration event takes place in City Park.
Banner group Bradford Together, consisting of groups including HOPE not Hate, Bradford Women for Peace, Bradford TUC, the Muslim Women’s Council, Bradford Council for Mosques, Unison, Yorkshire and the Humber TUC, and other groups and individuals, will be at the event.
Human flamingos and street magicians will entertain, there will be face-painting, and food made by Bradford College students.
Organisers are hoping for about 200 people to take part and are calling on all those living in Bradford to join them in a celebration of unity and peace.
The event runs from noon to 4pm, led by Bradford Women for Peace, who will be spreading green ribbons around the city.
From 4pm to 5.45pm a giant peace wall with thousands of peace postcards left by Bradfordians will be unveiled, with silent prayers led by the Interfaith Prayers for Peace group between 5.45pm and 6pm.
Bradford Together spokesman Paul Meszaros said: “We will continue the theme of peace, unity and solidarity in the lead-up to the EDL demonstration by spreading the message of hope and peace in the city centre.
“There are many ways for people to get involved.
“We are asking that people turn up at 4pm today at Centenary Square to post a message of hope on the giant peace wall that has been put together using messages of peace sent in by local residents.”
