Two arrested in Haworth on suspicion of stealing Yorkshire stone
5:15pm Tuesday 8th October 2013 in News
Two men have been arrested in Haworth on suspicion of stealing Yorkshire stone.
Sergeant Chris Watson, of Bingley and Worth Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the men were held on Monday morning. He said: “The theft of Yorkshire stone is an ongoing issue.
“In a way we’ve been a victim of our own success, because while metal theft has been brought under control through new legislation we haven’t legislated for stone.
“Haworth is a place that does suffer from this crime, simply because of the amount of this type of stone in the area.”
Sgt Watson also said police had begun making “No trick or treaters” posters available for householders who do not want to be disturbed at Hallowe’en.
He said: “We’re not out to spoil people’s fun but not everyone wants people knocking on their doors.”
