Firemen raise £500 at Silsden Fire Station's open day
Local people gained an insight into the effects of drink-driving on a special driving simulator during the annual open day at Silsden Fire Station last Saturday. The safety simulator was one of the highlights of the fundraising event organised by the station’s retained crew.
The firefighters also gave several dramatic demonstrations of how to deal with chip pan fires.
The event raised more than £500 which will be split between the Firefighters Charity and the Royal British Legion.
Legion members from Silsden helped firefighters at the open day by selling replica fire helmets to children.
Crew commander Peter Hanson said his team gave talks on fire safety during the event at the fire station in Elliott Street, and firefighters’ wives baked cakes to help boost the proceeds.
In December, the Silsden station will organise a Firefighter of the Year ceremony at nearby Sunnybank Social Club.
