Otley foodbank set for launch
8:00am Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
A first collection of goods for Otley’s food bank will be held at Waitrose this weekend.
Volunteers from the project’s steering group will be at the supermarket on Saturday and Sunday.
Shoppers will be invited to buy an extra item or two and drop them into collection trolleys after purchase.
Leaflets with a list of the kinds of food that would be helpful – tinned vegetables, beans, fish and meat, along with pasta, rice, noodles, sauces and long-life juice and milk – will be given out.
Waitrose has offered to sort and temporarily store the donations for the food bank, whose location is due to be revealed soon, ahead of opening in November.
The Vicar of Otley, the Rev Graham Buttanshaw, a member of the steering group, praised the supermarket and its staff for their willingness to assist. He said: “They really couldn’t have been more helpful.”
