Poundland aims for 1,000 new stores

Discount retailer Poundland is planning to open 1,000 stores in the UK on the back of continued sales growth.
The Midlands-based firm, which has 458 stores in the UK and Ireland, including Bradford and Keighley, saw a 15 per cent rise in total sales to £880 million in the year to the end of March.
Poundland, which sells all its items priced at £1 or less, served 4.5 million customers a week in the 12 months to March, which drove its pre-tax profit before exceptional items up 29 per cent to £23.1 million.
