Mother due to give evidence in manslaughter trial
6:00am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A Bradford mother who denies killing her four-year-old son by allowing him to starve to death was today due to start giving evidence in her defence.
Amanda Hutton, 43, has pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter by gross negligence of Hamzah Khan, whose mummified corpse was found in a cot in her bedroom in September 2011 – almost two years after he died.
Prosecutor Paul Greaney QC has told the jury at Bradford Crown Court that Hamzah's growth had been stunted because he was malnourished over a lengthy period and that resulted in his death.
“In short, he starved to death," Mr Greaney said.
Hutton, now of Farcliffe Road, Girlington, had been due to start giving evidence yesterday but was expected to start her defence today at 10.30am.
