1:00pm Saturday 28th September 2013 in News
Members of Ilkley Cycling Club met the Minister for Sport and Tourism Hugh Robertson to tell him what they are doing to support the Grand Depart 2014.
The opening two stages for the 2014 Tour de France will be held in Yorkshire on July 5 and 6 and the minister was in Leeds to meet with members of the TDF 2014 Ltd board, staff from Welcome to Yorkshire and others involved in the event.
The minister was joined outside Leeds Town Hall by members of Ilkley Cycle Club, one of the UK’s biggest cycling clubs.
Ilkley Cycling Club secretary Paul O’Looney said: “Both cyclists and non-cyclists across Yorkshire are so excited to welcome the Grand Depart in 2014. “As a local cycling club we are here to support in whatever way we can – before, during and especially afterwards, as the legacy aspects of the Grand Depart will be critical to the growth of cycling.”
