The county’s ‘yellow buses’ will be going green, if a new project gets the go-ahead.
Metro has been awarded £1 million to install eco-friendly equipment onto its MyBus fleet, which was formerly known as YellowBus.
The service visits 200 schools in West Yorkshire on a daily basis and makes 2.4 million passenger trips each year. It also provides transport for the Culture Fusion youth centre in Bradford.
Metro was awarded £999,957 from the Department for Transport’s Clean Bus Technology Fund.
This will pay for the oldest 119 vehicles to be fitted with selective catalytic reduction technology, meaning they would meet stricter emissions standards.
On top of this, 61 vehicles will be fitted with GreenRoad, an eco-driving system which helps the drivers reduce their fuel consumption.
This spending is set to be approved at the next meeting of Metro’s executive board, on Friday.
