Operation Hawk is taking off
1:23pm Sunday 22nd September 2013 in News
Operation Hawk, North Yorkshire Police’s campaign to clamp down on rural and cross-border crime, is now in full flight with the new Road Crime Team in operation.
Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, who is heading Operation Hawk, said: “The Road Crime Team is a very dynamic group of officers who actively target known and suspected criminals who use the road networks to commit offences, particularly in and around our rural communities.
“Using the very latest intelligence reports and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology, they are able to track and trace vehicles which are linked to criminal activity and known suspects.
“As well as advanced tactical driving capability to stop suspect vehicles in a safe and controlled manner, the team has a full range of investigative skills including searching vehicles and executing warrants at addresses if stolen goods or illegal items are believed to be present.
“My message to travelling criminals is a clear one: expect to be stopped and arrested if you come to North Yorkshire to commit offences. If we don’t arrest you here, we will not hesitate to track you down and arrest you at home, wherever that is.”
