'Mindless vandals' damage Brighouse golf course
6:00am Friday 20th September 2013 in News
Golfers at a Brighouse course have been left angered after 20 holes appeared overnight in its perfect turf.
Les Holmes, club manager at Crow Nest Park, said the attack on its fairway was a sickening blow.
Greenkeepers also found the name Aaron Roberts LS9 scrawled in sand in one of the bunkers as well as a set of footsteps – size eight or nine.
Police were told, but the footprints were blown away by the wind before they could be examined, said Mr Holmes.
He added: “We all, at Crow Nest, feel that we have the best greens in the area and there has been continued praise for a number of years so this is a sickening blow to members and visitors.
“It was downright malicious damage with no reason behind it apart from mindless vandalism. We don’t get much trouble here usually, thankfully.”
It cost the club about £500 in manpower to fill in all the holes following the attack earlier this month.
Anyone with information can call the club on (01484) 401152 or call the police on the non-emergency number 101.
