Parking shake-up planned in Otley
3:32pm Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
A £34,000 shake-up of parking is on the cards that will change Otley’s pay and display sites and could create a new one-way road section.
Leeds City Council is also intending to create more on-street parking spaces, including short stay and disabled bays close to the Post Office and library, as part of the scheme.
And a number of dropped kerbs with tactile paving will be introduced to help pedestrians with mobility issues, including wheelchair and pushchair users, cross the road safely.
The most significant of the improvements look likely to be:
* Introducing pay and display ticketing on the currently free car parks at Burras Lane and Charles Street
* Turning the current pay and display North Parade car park into a free site
* Making Charles Street (from north to south) along with Walkergate and Nelson Street (east to west) one-way.
It is hoped the changes will make Otley more pedestrian and shopper-friendly and so boost the local economy.
The proposals are due to be implemented before next April.
