Charitable trust will take over Bradford Council-run outdoor centres
7:00am Wednesday 18th September 2013 in News
Two Bradford Council-owned outdoor centres in the Dales will soon be run by a specially-formed charitable trust.
Buckden House, in Upper Wharfedale, and Inglebor-ough Hall, in Clapham, are used by schools in Bradford and Leeds for residential stays and day trips.
But the centres – which offer activities such as rock climbing, caving and orienteering – have suffered dwindling visitor numbers and currently run at a loss.
Headteachers were also keen to have more of a say in their running, so a management trust is being set up.
Bradford Council will continue to own both properties.
The move was approved yesterday. Councillor Ralph Berry, executive member for young people, said the future looked bright for the “amazing centres”.
