Family help Bradford woman Edith celebrated her 100th birthday
8:00am Tuesday 17th September 2013 in News
Family travelled from Scotland and London to help celebrate with Edith Beattie, who marked her 100th birthday yesterday.
Mrs Beattie, who was born in Bradford, left school at the 14 to work in a textile mill.
In 1937 she married Ivor, with whom she had two daughters Alma, now 73 and Anne Marie, now 58.
When her husband died in 1965, she continued her work at the Bradford Blighty Club, which they had run for a number of years, until it closed in 1977.
Her family held a big celebration for her on Saturday and yesterday she enjoyed festivities at the nursing home.
She attributes her long life to never smoking and enjoying the occasional whisky.
