MP David Ward holds car insurance premiums meeting
9:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
Bradford East MP David Ward met the Association of British Insurers to discuss ways to tackle the high cost of car premiums in the city.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Ward (Lib Dem) said: “There are many reasons why car insurance premiums tend to be more expensive in Bradford from the high number of whiplash claims, the high number of uninsured drivers, car thefts and the number of accidents involving younger drivers.
“There is no one solution and it will mean tackling a number of troubling areas, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
"The Government has listened and has taken action with changes to how claims are handled, such as banning referral fees from April this year which has helped reduce average car insurance premiums by about ten per cent nationally.”
“However, there is no room for complacency as there is much more to do as insurance is still far too high and I will continue to lobby the Government and work with organisations, like the ABI, to make comprehensive changes to ensure that car insurance is more affordable for those living in my constituency.”
Mr Ward conducted research into the issue in 2011, and is due to soon publish an update on Bradford’s car insurance problem soon.
