‘Nannying’ award from Bradford councillor goes to Newcastle
8:10am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
Newcastle City Council is the latest winner of a Bradford councillor's ‘nannying fussbucket award.’ Councillor Simon Cooke (pictured) uses the phrase, and the dubious honour, to refer to authorities who he believes try to get too involved in public life.
He said: “Newcastle City Council has introduced a minimum unit price condition for all new licences and applications for licence variation across the on and off-trade.
“Now, leaving aside the dubious legality of these proposals, this demonstrates just how little Newcastle Council understands anything other than signalling a disapproval of less well-off people affording to have a drink.”
