Petition to Bradford Council to restore street wall
11:00am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
A petition to stop the demolition of a crumbling street wall is likely to be overlooked by Bradford Council.
Residents of Jesmond Avenue, Mannheim Road, Bonn Road and Toller Lane collected 98 signatures calling for the wall to be restored.
But Bradford West Area Committee is set to ignore the appeal as it would cost an extra £50,000.
Petitioners are worried that removing the wall will affect property values and decrease privacy, stating the Council has an obligation to maintain it. But the Council argues the wall has been in a state of disrepair for years, and rebuilding it would only be a short-term solution.
To prevent unwanted through traffic, the Council has proposed a double kerb system to replace the wall, and this development is now likely to take place.
The recommendation is set to be confirmed at the Committee meeting on Wednesday.
