Road to be closed for work on Saltaire Roundabout
8:00am Thursday 5th September 2013 in News
Major changes to Saltaire Roundabout are due to take place this weekend.
The A650 Bingley Road will be closed temporarily for the installation of overhead wires, a Toucan Crossing and a signal junction at the top of Hirst Lane.
The closure will be from 10pm on Sunday until 5am on Monday to minimise traffic disruption.
When the Hirst Lane traffic lights become operational, Albert Road and Clarence Road will be closed off from the roundabout.
During the work all businesses will be open as usual and contractors will try and keep noise and disruption to a minimum during the night.
Traffic islands on the junction will be marked out with cones and road markings and the left turn ban from Saltaire Road into Bradford Road will become effective.
The junction will continue to operate as a roundabout with give way markings instead of the traffic signals which will be installed at a later date as the scheme progresses.
Councillor Val Slater, executive member for planning, transportation and highways, said: “It’s good to see the work progressing according to plan and the weather has been kind enough to let the contractors get on with it.
“These changes will help to show how the new junction will take shape on the ground.”
