Otley is now an official member of Mayors for Peace.
The town council has voted to affiliate itself to the international organisation, which campaigns for the abolition of all nuclear weapons.
Otley’s joining takes the total membership in Mayors for Peace to 5,736, from 157 countries.
Council leader Councillor John Eveleigh (Lab, Ashfield) said: “It is brilliant for Otley to belong to this global movement for peace.”
Mayors for Peace was set up by the mayors of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which suffered devastating atomic bomb attacks by the USA near the end of World War Two.
