Bradford Council leader braces public for more cuts
6:00am Wednesday 4th September 2013 in News
The leader of Bradford Council is warning people to brace themselves for big cuts to local services as Government spending cuts bite deeper.
Councillor David Green (Lab) said: “The Coalition Government has already cut Bradford’s funding by over £100 million and now it is cutting £115 million more, over a quarter of our remaining budget, in the next three years.
“So far we’ve cut as much as we can through improving efficiency and savings.
“But further punishing cuts on the scale imposed by Government make big cuts to services inevitable. To pretend otherwise would be misleading people.
“The Council can’t afford all the services that people are used to and we face tough decisions about what to cut back, what to charge for, what to stop doing and what to close down. That’s not hype, scaremongering or exaggeration, it is the stark reality.”
Coun Green’s comments come as the Council starts its initial consultation on the next round of cuts and he urged local people to have their say. Leaflets will be distributed from this Friday.
