Historic cars set for festival in village
Historic three-wheeled cars could be seen in Haworth as part of the village’s first Steampunk weekend.
Organisers believe the quirky Benz Motorwagen, which was invented in 1885, would prove a popular attraction for Steampunk fans.
They hope to persuade owners of replica Benz Motorwagens to bring them out of storage for an indoor display.
Steampunk is based around the concept of science fiction set in the past, and features fashion and technology from the Victorian era.
Andy Kissack, one of the organisers of the November 22-23 event, said the Motorwagen would fit the style perfectly.
He said: “The Benz Motorwagen would be absolutely thrilling.”
The Benz, regarded as the world’s first automobile, could be just one of several types of vintage vehicles on display during the Steampunk weekend.
Mr Kissack, who works as a vehicle bodywork repairer, has already secured a vintage car from a vehicle hire company where he works regularly.
Mr Kissack also hopes to find a 1904 Panhard, similar to the kind of vehicle used by Mr Toad in Toad Of Toad Hall.
