Cullingworth scarecrow creations go to the movies
All sorts of famous but possibly slightly scruffy-looking ‘personalities’ will appear around Culling-worth as part of the village’s latest annual scarecrow festival.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘CULLYWOOD’ – Hollywood comes to Cullingworth. Local furniture business Pineoakio has entered fully into the spirit of the occasion with its own creation, put together by 23-year-old apprentice Lucy Thompson. She has made ‘A night at the Oscars with Mr Pineoakio’, and he will be on show for both days of the festival this weekend.
Visitors will be able to browse the different scarecrow-builders’ imaginative, rustic efforts on minibus trips around the village.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “This is our 11th annual scarecrow festival. We hope to beat last year’s total of entries and raise in excess of £1,000 for charity.”
Festival programmes cost £1 and were due to go on sale in Cullingworth shops. Proceeds will go to the Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Call (01535) 272325 for further details.
