A taxi driver who smashed up a Subaru Impreza with a wheelbrace in a family dispute has been sentenced to a community order with 120 hours of unpaid work.
Javid Iqbal, 50, had his taxi licence suspended after doing £7,700 damage to the vehicle belonging to Akhmed Hussain on May 13 last year. Iqbal pleaded guilty at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court and was sent to the Crown Court for sentence.
The court heard yesterday that Iqbal armed himself with a wheelbrace and set about the car on Hazelhurst Road, Daisy Hill, Bradford.
Prosecutor David Ward said he was of previous good character.
Attempts had been made to settle it, and to fix an exact compensation figure using community mediation but they had failed.
The court was told that Iqbal, of Folkstone Street, Bradford Moor, had worked as a taxi driver for many years. He had suffered from depression after his licence was suspended.
