Queensbury man sentenced for growing cannabis plants
8:00am Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
A Queensbury man has been given a 12-month community order after he was caught growing cannabis.
Police were alerted to Steven Holt’s activities by the strong smell of cannabis and when they searched his property they found seven almost mature plants, together with cuttings and some harvested material.
Holt, 45, of Hill End Lane, pleaded guilty to producing the Class B drug and abstracting electricity, and yesterday he was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for the offending last November.
Judge Peter Benson said Holt had been growing the drug for his own use and the police had discovered quite a sophisticated operation in an upstairs bedroom.
Under the terms of the community order Holt will have to do 100 hours of unpaid work for the community and undertake an activity requirement for 15 days.
