Man hit over head in attempted robbery at Birstall cash machine
7:00am Wednesday 28th August 2013 in News
A man was hit over the head when he refused to hand over money at a cash machine.
The 29-year-old was approached outside Tesco Express on Smithies Lane, Birstall.
As he took his cash, a man in his 30s demanded the money and then hit him over the head when he would not give it up.
The attacker then fled empty handed towards the town centre after the victim tried to grab hold of him.
A police spokesman said: “The suspect was described as white, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, slim and in his late 30s. He was wearing a black and grey hooded top with the hood up, and dark-coloured bottoms. He spoke with a local accent and sounded rough.”
