Volunteers needed for grandparents scheme
10:00am Sunday 25th August 2013 in News
Volunteers from Wharfedale and Aireborough are needed to work on a vital helpline for grandparents.
The Grandparents’ Association is looking for volunteers to staff its information and support line.
Volunteers will answer calls from grandparents, families and professionals on issues relating to grandparents, especially where they are caring for their grandchildren on a full-time basis, or they have lost contact.
It is estimated that one million UK children lose touch with their grandparents as a result of separation or divorce, while 200,000 grandparents and other family and friends carers are raising their grandchildren often in difficult family circumstances and with little or no support.
To find out more, contact volunteer co-ordinator Rob Cook or scheme manager David Cousins on 0113 446 1111, or by e-mail at rob.cook@grandparents -association.org.uk or david.cousins@grandpar ents-association.org.uk
