Otley MP Greg Mulholland backs initiative for vulnerable
A district MP has welcomed a new scheme that will see mental health nurses accompanying police officers to some incidents.
West Yorkshire Police has been chosen along with four other forces to pilot a project aimed at improving the way vulnerable people are treated during emergencies.
The street triage initiative involves the nurses travelling to certain incidents with police officers to ensure those involved get the medical help needed as quickly as possible.
MP Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West, pictured) said: “It is important that vulnerable people get the right support in stressful emergency situations. I welcome the Government’s commitment to support people with mental health problems and the hardworking health professionals and officers who deal with these situations regularly."
