A convenience store has been granted permission to sell alcohol, despite concerns it would fuel anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhood.
The Bradford District Licensing Panel met yesterday to decide whether to allow the 5 Star Mini Market in School Street, Clayton, to sell alcohol. The applicant, Goran Mustafa Mohamadamin, didn’t attend the meeting.
Ward councillor Carol Thirkill, speaking on behalf of local objectors, said Clayton already had 16 shops, clubs or pubs selling alcohol.
She said: “We have a cohort of teenagers that are causing anti-social behaviour, all related to alcohol consumption.”
But panel chairman Councillor John Ruding said as the mini market wasn’t yet selling alcohol, this wasn’t a problem that could be blamed on Mr Mohamadamin.
