A Bradford girl who is battling a genetic disorder is calling on the community to help her win a £1,000 holiday in a national competition to find a Little Hero.
Nine-year-old Katie Smith was named as a finalist in the Little Heroes competition – and now she needs public votes to help win her the dream trip.
Katie, of Idle, was diagnosed with the disorder in 2009 when she was five. Since then she has had four tumours removed and deals with chronic back pain on a day-to-day basis. She will undergo more major surgery in October to straighten her spine.
The competition Katie has entered is run by pub chain Fayre & Square and children’s play centre Wacky Warehouse.
Katie was entered by her mum Davina Smith and will now go head-to-head with nine other finalists in a Facebook vote.
Mrs Smith said: “I’m so happy that Katie has made it to the shortlist. The recognition of this competition would be the icing on the cake for the whole family.
“She’s such a brave little girl and People can vote for Katie at facebook.com/fayreandsquare.
