The congregation of Christchurch in Ilkley is planning a harvest with a difference this year A week of celebrations of people’s harvest from their allotments and gardens will be held from Sunday, September 8, until Sunday, September 15.
During that week the coffee centre at the church – on The Grove, open 10am 4pm – will have a special harvest menu and there will be a stall in the foyer selling excess produce and homemade jams and chutneys.
On September 13, the shopper’s service at 10.30am will be the first harvest service, followed by harvest celebrations on Sunday at 9am and 10.30am.
Finally on Sunday evening at 6.30pm there will be a harvest Songs of Praise, and people are invited to suggest their favourite hymns and why – email: office@christchurch ilkley.org.uk.
Minister Rob Hilton said: “We are encouraging everyone in Ilkley, who has a harvest of some sort, to reflect on the abundance of nature and their own labour.
“As Christians, we believe God blesses all creation and we want to give thanks to him for that we can nurture food in our own small way. This is a week of celebration for everyone to take part in.”
