Benefits tax change warning to Bradford parents
10:20am Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
High-income parents who receive child benefits have been warned that they could be fined if they don’t complete a tax form by October.
Parents earning more than £50,000 who continued to get the government benefit after January have to register for Self Assessment by October 5.
This week HM Revenue and Customs will write to two million parents who fall into this bracket reminding them to register.
In Yorkshire around 22,600 people with higher incomes have already opted out of receiving Child Benefit since the system was shaken up in January, but the changes mean many of those who continue to receive it have to carry out a tax self assessment.
More information on whether you need to register for Self Assessment can be found at: hmrc.gov.uk/sa/need-tax-return.htm
