Council issues benefits cap reminder
Bradford Council is reminding people that the Government’s benefit cap will limit the amount of benefit that most people of working age can receive if they are not working.
This will be applied to claimants in the Bradford district between August 12 and September 30. The total amount of benefit paid – including Housing Benefit – will be limited to £500 a week for couples and lone parents, and £350 a week for single people.
The cap will apply to combined income from the main out-of-work benefits, plus Housing Benefit, Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit.
In cases where the cap is applied it will be the amount of Housing Benefit that is reduced until the new Universal Credit system is introduced.
For people who have queries there is a benefit cap helpline 0845 605 7064 or textphone 0845 608 8551 for people with hearing or speech impairments.
The helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm or go online at gov.uk/benefit-cap.
Finding work can mean that the Benefit Cap does not apply. A Jobcentre Plus Outreach Adviser can give advice and support. To arrange a meeting call (01274) 338985.
