Rail travellers face hold-ups
6:00am Thursday 15th August 2013 in News
Rail travellers faced delays of up to 30 minutes on journeys through Skipton until midday yesterday after a chaotic morning that saw hundreds of passengers severely disrupted.
Trains to and from Skipton were stopped shortly before 7am after a freight train broke down near the town station, blocking other trains. Replacement buses were requested, services between Bradford and Skipton suspended and passengers advised to find other means of transport.
After the freight train was moved, rail officers had to check to see if the track was damaged. At about 8am commuters were faced with 90-minute delays.
And signalling problems in Shipley led to trains being delayed by up to half an hour.
Shortly after 9am passengers were informed the problems had been dealt with, but there could be residual delays.
