Workers carrying out a refurbishment at Silsden Town Hall have uncovered original features.

An ornate wooden roof structure and arch window were revealed when the workmen removed a suspended ceiling in the first-floor main hall.

The £300,000 refurbishment will feature a revamp of all rooms including the kitchen, the provision of new toilets and the installation of a lift to the first floor and a fire escape.

A ramp at the front entrance will make the Kirkgate building more accessible.

Once work is complete, Silsden Library will be relocated to the ground floor, offering children's reading sessions, IT facilities and other events during the day.

The facilities – which will include a stage, lighting and sound system – will be available for hire for events.
