Six parks in the Bradford district have won a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The national benchmark for the best parks and green spaces in the UK was awarded to Lister Park in Manningham, Peel Park in Bolton, Roberts Park in Saltaire, Harold Park in Low Moor, St Ives Estate in Bingley and Central Park in Haworth.

Lister Park has now won the award for 12 consecutive years, while Roberts Park is celebrating its hat-trick of awards as a result of improvements to the park’s infrastructure and increased community activity.

The Green Flag Award scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Councillor Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s executive member for Environment and Sport, said: “This result is marvellous news.”

Calderdale Council also celebrated some Green Flag Awards, with Bailiff Bridge Memorial Park, Ogden Water Country Park and Wellholme Park among its winners.
