Hollywood is coming to a village in the district.

Cullingworth’s popular annual scarecrow festival takes place next month and entries are invited this year on a movies theme.

Since it began 11 years ago the event has raised thousands of pounds for Sue Ryder’s Manorlands hospice in Oxenhope, near Keighley, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and the two causes will again share the proceeds.

Anyone is invited to enter the festival on September 7 and 8. There is an open category in addition to the themed section.

“We normally have around 40 scarecrows – it’s a lovely weekend that brings the village together,” said event chairman Mrs Rosemary Spencer.

Money is raised through the sale of programmes from village shops in late August, and donations.

Scarecrows will be on show from 10am both days and a minibus will make regular trips around Cullingworth for people unable to walk the route.

There will be several refreshment points.
