A founder member of Keighley Town Council has died aged 73.

Bob Horrell, of Exley Head, died at Airedale Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Birmingham but had lived in Keighley for 37 years.

He and his wife Janet had two sons, Andrew and David. Andrew said: “He just enjoyed life and got on with everyone. He was always doing something, always had a project on the go.”

Mr Horrell worked as a plumber, but from 1976 to 2006 he and his wife ran a model shop in Keighley.

They started the business in the Royal Arcade before moving to Station Bridge, then finally Oakworth Road.

Mr Horrell, who previously lived in Riddlesden, was on the town council from its inception in 2002, before stepping down in 2007.

Town clerk Miggy Bailey said: “He was always supportive of all the council was doing.”

The funeral service takes place on Friday, July 26 at 1pm in the Knowle, followed by cremation at Oakworth.
