There was a mixture of tears and smiles as a Bradford school was renamed after 13 years.

To mark the change at Challenge College, Frizinghall, students planted a commemorative tree and scattered wild seeds in the school grounds One thousand balloons, with students’ hopes written on tags, were also released by pupils and teachers.

There was also an exhibition of work done by students and staff over the years. The school in North Avenue, which opened in 2000, will now become Oasis Academy Lister Park.

Head teacher Ian Richardson said: “Today has been a mixture of tears and smiles as we celebrate 13 fantastic years as Challenge College and look forward to the future as Oasis Academy Lister Park. Challenge College will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of the 3,006 students who have studied here.”
