A inquest will start to hear on Monday what happened to a Keighley man who died in a house fire where a woman had been stabbed.

Omid Aref’s inquest in Bradford is expected to last three days.

His body was discovered in the house in Argyle Street, Highfield, in June 2010. He was originally from Kurdistan and was understood to have been involved in a barber’s business called Station Cutz at Keighley railway station.

His body was found in the house by firefighters and the blaze was treated as suspicious at the time.

The 33-year-old was also understood to be the father of a young child and had left the Keighley area to live in Birmingham with his extended family before returning shortly before the incident.

A 24-year-old Slovakian woman who fled the blazing house with a stab wound had to be treated at Airedale General Hospital.

Detectives said at the time they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the woman’s injuries or the fire and they had stressed that in their initial inquiries they considered the woman to be a victim.
