Three cases of tuberculosis have been reported in people with links to Thornton Grammar School in the last 12 months, it emerged last night.
The Telegraph & Argus reported yesterday how Public Health England (PHE) said one student at the school had a case of active TB and revealed plans to screen some students and staff.
Last night it was revealed that there had been two previous cases of TB reported in the last year.
Dr Leena Inamdar, consultant in communicable disease control at PHE’s Yorkshire and the Humber Centre, said: “We are aware there have been two previous TB cases occurring over the past 12 months in individuals with links to Thornton Grammar School.
“Detailed risk assessments are conducted for TB cases on an individual basis and necessary screening determined, depending on a number of factors.
“Risk assessments have been undertaken on all cases and, as a result, PHE is advising screening now of a limited number of school contacts.”
