A tennis fan from Bradford told today how he managed to secure a £10 seat on Centre Court to witness Andy Murray’s historic triumph and then talk to the Wimbledon champion as he paraded the trophy.

As ticket prices soared to £30,000 on the black market, Jonathan Pinfield was presented with his ticket at a booth at the All England Club and witnessed Murray break Britain’s 77-year wait for a Men’s Wimbledon winner.

Mr Pinfield, 42, said: “I must be the luckiest sports fan in the world. Andy’s dream came true and so did mine. I am still dizzy about what happened.”

The community radio worker, who lives on Market Street, in the city centre, said he had joined a queue for returned tickets at 10.30am, three-and-a-half hours before play began.

“Ticket prices had gone mad. I saw the booth for returns and decided to give it a go. I just sat in the line all day and around 3.30pm, they sold me a ticket for £10. I could not believe it and somebody escorted me to my seat.

“It turned out to be right at the front and I saw the final set.

“I could not believe what I was seeing and then when Andy won, he took the trophy around the stadium and stopped to talk to me with the cup in his hands.

“I told him ‘Well done, Andy, you have just made history’ and he said ‘Cheers mate’.

“I then asked him to sign my programme which he did and I will keep it forever. I am just so lucky.”

Mr Pinfield was one of a handful of fans given tickets to fill empty seats which is part of the All England Club’s policy.
