Bradford East MP, David Ward, has launched an online survey to collect information about how social care is delivered in homes across Bradford.

News of the survey comes just days after the Telegraph & Argus reported claims that home carers are being given just 15 minutes at a time to wash, cook, and care for the elderly.

It also comes as a short debate on access to care services in Bradford takes place in the House of Commons today involving Mr Ward.

The survey is part of the Liberal Democrat MP’s ‘Bradford Cares’ campaign that brings together people and groups from all backgrounds to argue for the provision of a moderate level of care and support in the future.

The official launch for the campaign is on Monday, July 15, at Carlisle Business Centre, with former care minister Paul Burstow and Age UK Bradford & District chief executive Keith Nathan.

The survey has been put together with the help of people who work in Bradford providing care and support to thousands of vulnerable people who rely on the help to complete tasks like getting washed and dressed.

Mr Ward said Bradford Council was currently consulting residents about changing the Fair Access to Care criteria from ‘moderate’ to ‘substantial’ or ‘critical’ which could mean thousands of people who need help would no longer be eligible for it.

Councillor Jeanette Sunderland, the leader of the Liberal Democrats on the Council, has been calling for an immediate suspension of the consultation which she wants to remain at moderate.

The responses to the survey will help David Ward to compile a report that will be fed back to the Council and the Government. He said: “Over the past months people working in and providing care in Bradford have been in touch with me describing a situation that is deteriorating.

“One care provider has claimed that they don’t even bid to offer the service in Bradford because they don’t agree with the way people are forced to be treated by the system. To help get to the bottom of this and help make sure the people who need care and support get the help they deserve I have launched a survey for Domiciliary Care Workers”.
