Health experts will be out and about sharing their tips how choosing the right shoes can prevent falls.

Bradford District Care Trust staff will be visiting local supermarkets, shops and community centres during Age UK’s Falls Awareness Week, which runs from Monday to Friday. Experts will be on hand to offer over-65s advice on keeping their feet healthy and what to look out for when choosing footwear. A bad choice of shoe and poor foot health can cause pain, balance problems and a lack of sensation in the feet, said the Trust’s falls co-ordinator Sharon Bond.

She said: “Older people are at risk of falling for many reasons. It’s not an inevitable part of growing old. Despite what people think, many falls are preventable. Simple things such as wearing the correct shoes, easy exercises and checking and improving your surroundings are all things which can help reduce the risk of a fall.”

During the week-long roadshow, people can enter a competition to win a pair of shoes and a foot massage.
