Authors and poets of the future got to hone their writing skills when a school held a three-day literacy festival.

On Wednesday, three authors, Dennis Bonds, SF Said and Petr Horacek, visited Allerton Primary School, in Garforth Street, Bradford, to talk about life as a writer. Performance poetry was the order of the day on Thursday, with parents as well as pupils joining in the fun.

And yesterday, kids used a picture from popular children’s book Where the Wild Things Are to inspire their own literary creations.

Teacher Jennifer Walker said: “The three days have just been a massive success.

“The reason we held the festival is because we are really ambitious for our children and we wanted to show them that they can be whatever they want to be.”
