The eighth Bradford Pride event which has attracted crowds in their thousands and is hailed an “integral part” of the city’s calendar, will be held tomorrow.

The annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture will take place in Centenary Square from noon until about 7pm.

The family-friendly event will see host of acts taking to the stage with The Showbears who reached the final stage of ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent last year, topping the bill.

There will be market stalls selling a variety of items along with information stands, and a youth tent.

Food and drinks will also be available.

The event, which is organised by volunteers as a community event, is funded through donations and fundraising.

Prior to last year’s event, its future was hanging in the balance as the Bradford Pride Committee said it needed to raise more than £10,000.

But determined volunteers ensured the free event happened and it proved a success with the crowds as an estimated 10,000 people attended.

This year the event has received support from the Big Lottery Fund along with other sponsors and donors.

Organisers said the Pride event provides an occasion for people who are not familiar with the LGBT community to come along and enjoy the day and it aims to promote good relations among communities in Bradford as a whole.

Ann Morgan, chairman of Bradford Pride, said: “We are delighted that Bradford Pride is taking place in Centenary Square again this year.

“There is an amazing line-up on the stage which we hope the crowds will enjoy.

“It now feels that Pride is an integral part of the Bradford calendar.

“Bradford Pride provides an opportunity for people who are beginning their journey of “coming out” as LGBT, in addition to those who just want to celebrate their identity.”
