An urgent appeal is being made for the return of treasured items stolen from a disabled man’s Allerton home.

Timothy Hague, 30, of Allerton Road, said he was “devastated” to return home following a two week holiday in Spain with his parents to find his home had been burgled.

Among the many items taken from the house included jewellery, televisions and computers and his much-loved and personally signed photograph of boxer Muhammad Ali. The Ali photograph in particular had a lot of sentimental value to Mr Hague as he was given it by a friend about ten years ago after suffering a serious accident which left him in a wheelchair.

Mr Hague said: “My brother went to check on the house, which I share with my mum and dad, the day before we flew back home on Thursday May 9, to find at first a few drawers left open in the kitchen, which he found odd.

“So he went into the house further to see more clearly that we had been burgled.

“But because he doesn’t live with us he wasn’t entirely sure what had gone missing.

“When we got back we looked around to see what was missing. There seemed to be more space in my room – I knew something was missing and then it dawned on me it was the photograph.

“The photograph gave me a real boost at the time of the accident and has done ever since and as everyone knows he is a true inspiration. It was very special to me, I was so devastated to realise it had gone.”

Following the incident Mr Hague took to social networking site Facebook to start an appeal for anyone who may have any information to let him know. He posted a photograph of himself, taken in 2003, next to the signed photograph of Muhammad Ali, which is the only remaining picture he has of the boxing legend. His status was shared on the site more than 1,500 times. He said: “I wanted to put the appeal out to let whoever took the picture know it is in the wrong hands. That kind of response was overwhelming and that did give me a real boost.”

Police asked anyone with information to contact the non-emergency number on 101.
