A group of Bradford children will be taken to watch Bradford City’s play-off final at Wembley by a think-tank wanting to capitalise on Bantams’ extraordinary cup and league exploits this season.

British Future hosted a seminar called ‘Beyond Wembley’ in February after the club’s Capital One Cup final against Swansea questioning how what to do with the city’s surge in pride and unity.

And now, to mark City’s return to the landmark stadium, it has decided to take a group of youngsters from Sandy Lane Primary School to watch the showpiece clash against Northampton on Saturday. Rachael Jolley, director of communications and editorial director at British Future, said: “When Bradford CIty went to Wembley for the first time this season it really felt like the whole city had come together and it was an opportunity for different communities to reach out to each other to celebrate the football.

“That spirit has continued with this trip to Wembley.

“We thought it was an opportunity to capitalise on the enthusiasm and excitement by taking a group of boys and girls to watch the play-off final.

“Some of these will have never seen a football game before, while some will be more long-term supporters.

“There is going to be a really special atmosphere.”

The group of children will set off on a minibus to Wembley from City’s Valley Parade home on Saturday morning and will meet a national newspaper sports journalist at the match.

The trip, which will be filmed, has been organised in partnership with the Zesh Rehman Foundation.

Ms Jolley said: “There will be various things going on during the journey.

“It’s another great opportunity for the city to feel positive and to think of the future – what opportunities this could offer Bradford and get the conversation moving forward.

“Football has the power to unite communities and it’s great Bradford is back at Wembley again.”
