A violent robber who targets vulnerable and elderly victims in Bradford is being hunted by detectives.

The robber, who dresses in traditional Muslim clothing, is thought to be responsible for two attacks in Manningham and is being linked to three similar incidents which took place last year.

Police today released an e-fit and CCTV images of a man they urgently want to trace in connection with the despicable offences.

The latest incident happened on April 15 this year, when a 56-year-old man, living alone, was subjected to an assault at flats in Walmer Villas, Manningham, after the suspect tricked his way into the building.

The suspect was described as Asian, 6ft tall, of large build, with a dark beard and wearing traditional Muslim clothing.

The same man is believed to have committed a similar robbery, on January 28, in Carlisle Place, Manningham.

The 80-year-old victim, who walks with a stick and also lives on his own, was returning from the shop when he passed the suspect on the street. The man said hello, but when the victim opened his front door the robber barged his way in, shoved the pensioner and stole a number of items.

Before leaving, the suspect locked the victim in his house. It is thought he was found the next day when his daughter visited. The victim was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Detective Sergeant Martin Milner, of Bradford South CID, said: “These were despicable acts on vulnerable members of the community.

“Thankfully neither of the victims were badly hurt, but both men were left extremely shocked and traumatised by the ordeal.”

Det Sgt Milner said there was a distinct possibility the two incidents were linked to three similar offences last year.

Men, aged 88, 72, and 53, were attacked at their homes in Manningham in separate incidents in July and August. One victim was threatened with a knife, another with a hammer, and the third was punched several times in the face. One man was left locked in.

Det Sgt Milner said: “These three elderly people were targeted in strikingly similar circumstances.

“It is likely that the same individual is behind these recent attacks and it is vital that we quickly apprehend him.

“A considerable amount of investigative work has been conducted and inquiries are ongoing to locate the individual responsible.

“But we need the support of the community to help us to identify this man and I am confident someone locally knows who he is.

“CCTV inquiries are also ongoing and Neighbourhood Policing patrols are focused on the area, with officers speaking to residents.

“I would urge anyone with information about any of these incidents to come forward immediately and let us know.

“If you believe you know the suspect, call the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.”
