The High Commissioner of Dominica will visit an event on Friday that aims to bring Bradford’s black communities closer together.

The African and Caribbean Communities empowerment day at City Hall will include an address by commissioner Francine Baron and the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Coun Dale Smith, will unveil plans to create a cultural centre for excellence in the city.

The day will also help raise awareness of health issues that disproportionately affect the black community, with diabetes testing and professional advice available.

Jerome James, who has organised the event to give the black community a bigger voice in Bradford, said: “It’s an honour to have the high commissioner coming to Bradford and it will really raise the profile of this great event.”

It starts at noon and lasts until 5pm.
